Our Sheepadoodles

What is a Sheepadoodle?

A Sheepadoodle is an intentional cross between an Old English Sheepdog Dog and a Poodle. They have a wonderful variety of traits that they inherit from both of their parents. They are known for being charming, friendly, smart, great with kids, with unique beautiful coats. The Old English Sheepdog and the Standard Poodle, are both two friendly and playful dogs that pass on plenty of their good traits to their Sheepadoodle offspring.

What do the Generations Mean?

The “F” stands for “filial” and is simply a way to denote generation. So an F1 Sheepadoodle doodle means “First Generation” and so on. Each generation offers unique qualities for Doodle owners.

What Generation of Sheepadoodles do we breed?

We currently breed Standard F1 and F1B Sheepadoodles. An F1 is a 50/50 mix and has a wonderful variety of traits from both their parents with either straight, wavy, or curly hair with a low-shedding coat.

An F1B is 25% Old Englsih Sheepdog and 75% Poodle; it will still have much of the personality of the Old English Sheepdog but with a more consistent curly coat like a Poodle they have super-low to non-shedding hair.

We love both, each offering unique characteristics, that can fit a variety of preferences.

How Big Does a Sheepadoodle Get?

Standard F1 and F1B Sheepadoodles are typically 55-85 lbs

but occasionally up to 90+ lbs.

They are loved for being active, affectionate, super smart, and very friendly.

If you want an active, loving, intelligent dog a Sheepadoodle might be a great choice for you. We love our Doodles so do our clients.

Do You Breed Minis?

We plan to begin breeding Mini/Mediums in 2024! Keep an eye on our upcoming litters if you are interested in a slightly smaller Sheepadoodle.

Coat & Colors

The Sheepadoodle is known for its coat, and there is lot to learn. If you are considering owning a Sheepadoodle you will need to know about the coat types and grooming.

  • An F1 Sheepadoodle can have Straight, Wavy or Curly Hair

Most F1 Sheepadoodles have the wavy hair coat which is a low to non-shedding hair type. They inherit this from the Poodle Parent. Poodles or curly haired Doodles hair does not fall out on its own like fur, it must be brushed out or cut.

An F1B will have curly hair very similar to a poodle, they are non-shedding. Most people with dog fur allergies are ok with the curly hair type.

Doodles with a more curly coat like the poodle will not shed. However dog allergies vary greatly and if you are allergic to saliva or other characteristics it will likely be the same as other dogs. For dog fur sensitivities an F1B is the best option.

The straighter the hair the less intensive grooming and maintenance it will need and the more it will shed.

The more curly the less it will shed and be more allergy friendly, but it will require more grooming and brushing.

All coat types can be wonderful options for different reasons. Let us know what matches your lifestyle and we can match you with your perfect Sheepadoodle.

  • The coloring of every Sheepadoodle is totally unique, They are know for there beautiful markings.

    Our Sheepadoodles are typically

~Black and White spotted as Puppies, and turning white and gray as adults.-

~Occasionally keeping their black as they age.

~Occasionally having flecks of brown, tan, or red in there coat as well.

Sheepadoodles are gorgeous and easy to identify from each with their unique marking.

  • They shed very little to not at all which is wonderful for allergies or being indoors. But their coat is considered high maintenance so you will need to invest in grooming tools and find a good groomer.

    We recommend

    -Brushing every other day.

-Bathing once every 3 weeks or monthly (Curly haired dogs need their natural oils do not over bath them.

-Haircuts 2-6 times a year. Find a good groomer who has experience with Doodles and they will help you with caring for your Sheepadoodle’s unique coat.

You can learn more about care and products we recommend here.

  • F1B Sheepadoodles will not shed, like a Poodle and are the best option for those who are wanting a dog that does not shed, or who have allergies to dog fur. Poodle or Curly Doodle hair is NOT hypoallergenic but is as close as it gets. Many of our clients have had great success with Doodles and allergies.

F1 Sheepadoodles can sometimes be a good choice for those with very MILD allergies. Since they are a 50/50 cross, some shedding is to be expected. Most F1 Sheepadoodles will be low shedding while others may shed moderately or not at all. If you are unsure how your allergies will be with a Sheepadoodle we recommend spending some time with a Sheepadoodle to see how you react.

No dog or animal is truly hypoallergenic. However a Poodle or a curly haired Doodle is about as close as you can get, but that is only in regards to the hair. If you have allergies to saliva and other characteristics it will likely be the same as other dog breeds. We cannot guarantee how your unique body will react to our Sheepadoodles coats. We strive to honestly portray our dogs for the wonderful animals they actually are.
